I have steels for work, but my boots for home are composite. Everything has the metatarsal protector, too. All it took was one dropped starter to make a believer out of me.
The composite guard doesn't conduct the cold like steel. Perfect for my unheated garage.
Funny, now that I'm older, I wear ear plugs and safety glasses (script) in my garage, too. I've been to the ER twice to dig steel out of my eyes. The third time I got it out myself with a magnet. So now my safety glasses come home in my lunch bucket..
