Keith, The road goes from the visitors center at Portage Glacier, around the end of the first mountain, then uses the same tunnel (the long one) as the railroad through to Whitter. The toll plaza is in Bear valley. Traffic runs in one direction for about 45 min.s, then is stopped and the other direction goes for about 45 min.s. Of course when a train comes all traffic is stopped. Robert
