Things will never be as they once were. The old trucks keep us in memory of a time we think were the ,good old days, when in fact they were much harder times for most people. If the PW did anything, it did help build the more modern world after WW11, It helped build the damns, electrify the remote regions. This country became a more livable place with their help but, time has moved on.
The roads and hiways are better, everyone has electricity, and now we run to and fro instead of staying home.In fact thats all we seem to do nowadays is run to and fro consuming.
PW's are work trucks,or should I say that was their original function. A strong ,tough,4x4 truck able to do and carry power offroad to do the job at hand. Designed to be rebuilt when worn and simple in construction and design.
We modify them to be and do more than they were intended and for the most part they adapt well enough but, they really do not function in todays world the way newer trucks do and are needed to do.
If a time machine could carry a Dodge diesel dually 4x4 back to 1950 and gave rides at the Dodge dealership ,which truck do you think they would pick?
I love my 64 WM300, but I still fantisize about some upgrades to it that would amount to basically putting the body on a newer chassis and drive train (except for the axles).
The PW was built for then and was the best they had but, time has moved on. Today, we need a different type truck for our fast paced world running to and fro.
Old PWs will never die unless they make us desroy them or outlaw fossil fuel.Old PWs will survive long after the folowing generations of new trucks are scraped and forgotten.
When I retire, you'll know my place by the new Dodge diesel and WM300 sitting beside my tipi, because by then the new Dodges will cost so much I'll need to sell my home to pay for it.
