So you got 8k in your pocket and you need a truck that can do some pulling if needed and not cost you an arm and a leg to maintain.

Option 1
Put ALL your money (8k) down on a new truck
Lose 5k in depreciation the first week.
Pay lots of insurance money for full coverage.
Pay $400 per month for payments for 5 years.
At the end of 5 years, you have a truck thats worth half of what you paid for it.
Pay someone else to fix it when it breaks.
Maybe a friend will tell you its a nice truck.

Option 2
Buy a good condition PW for 6k
Spend 2k on repairs (if needed).
Lower insurance costs
After 5 years, its worth MORE than you paid.
A real head-turner and conversation piece.
The occasional fix it project will usually be less than ONE new truck payment.
At the end of 5 years, you have a lot of new friends and good stories.
Be surrounded by super-models waiting for a ride.

OK - I lied about the super-models.

Don't even get me started on leasing.

Best Wishes
Lonnie
