If your little jap 4-banger went to rattling as if you had low octane gas when shifting into 4th and 5th gears then accelerating, and you notice the engine needs to be in 3rd gear with revs up to be smooth running, and as you turn into the autozone parking lot you let off the gas and downshift to pull into a space ,you notice the engine has died and will not restart, that oil has been forced out from under the valve cover onto the manifold, what is suspect?
After getting the 207,000mi vehicle home ,you check the timing belt and find its not broken. you take the top half of the belt cover off to find it hasn't jumped time.
You take one plug out at a time and check the compression and fine all 4 have no more than 30lbs compression. There is no water in the oil or oil in the water. there is spark.
So whats my possible problem before I pull the head off and check the head gasket? I haven't had to make vehicle payments in 5yrs and I don't want to start now. Does it sound fatal or does it sound like some corrective surgery might give a few more years of life.It has been a fine 90'mazda B-2200 PU since new and didn't smoke except occasionally on startup with no problems for 11-12 yrs. I thought it would live forever, I am in shock! After my son was born,I brought him home from the hospital in this truck.Like when your old dog finally dies, your in shock. It didn't need 4wheel drive as my son said.
SO tell me guys, can we save it? I never worked on a jap engine before, so any help would be appreciated.
