Before this all happened, my girlfriend was flying a flag on the door to her apartment between the summer Patriotic Holidays. She lives in an apartment building owned by the college we attend. The only people there were her and a couple international students in the few weeks between summer classes and the regular fall semester. She went home for one weekend and came back to find that someone had torched the strings that the flag was tied to on her door, and needless to say, the flag was gone. The only people there were foreigners. Do you think the school did anything? Hell no! They told her in a formal letter that she wouldn't be charged for the damages that weren't there. Yes, they actually said this. There was nothing done.
Right now, I'm back at school, and I have 2 flags in a planter box outside my window. There's 3 pepper plants in there, and that's my little "Victory" Garden. I'm just waiting for something to happen. But, it puts the summer's incident into perspective now, doesn' it? I wonder what would be done now if a flag was stolen or burnt.
