#2 is what I've used in my Ford diesels (6.9 and 7.3 Turbo) since 1984. I did have to replace the injector pump on the 1993, but it was not related to fuel. All diesel trucks up here use #2 in the summer and #1 in the winter. Much better performance with #2. It's a good idea and common practice to add an atermarket lubricant to #1. What many of the drivers use is simply a quart of automatic transmission fluid in each tank, or Marvel Mystery Oil. The #1 fuel is very "dry" and doesn't have the lubricating properties of #2. The reason for switching to #1 in the winter is the pour point or jell point of #1 is much lower.
