I am in northren Alberta where winter days can drop to 40 degrees below freezing, what works in California will freeze solid here.
Oil popsicles ... now there is an idea.
The up side is beautiful summers and summer days that starts with sunrise around 3 am and end some time after midnight.
The winters are short, and summers are long.
I have lived from coast to coast in Canada and the north is the best place I have ever lived.

What do the guys from Alaska think.
Anyone from Alaska travelling south stop in for a visit I am one half mile from the high way.
