Disengage the main drum (wire), lock the clutch handle, loop lead chain on bumper to prevent drum from turning by friction, and set hand brake. Then engage the winch main shaft at the PTO. Now the winch shaft and capstan turn and the main drum does not. Nice item for yarding brush, clearing creeks, shifting light to medium loads. Faster than using the main wire drum. Like with everything winch.."be careful" ....Jackson
