Richard -

The most common cause for these to wear out is improper adjustment of the striker, on the door jamb. You may want to try and adjust this before you replace anything.
As time goes by, doors begins to sag and causes this problem.

Tap the end of you Phillips head screwdriver with a hammer, while you are applying pressue to the striker screws. This will help free them up. If the top part of the striker looks worn, then push the striker slightly down and tighten the screws and give it a try. By trial and error, you may be able to remedy the problem while you are searching for better parts.

BTW - the Willoughby comment is straight out of an old Twilight Zone episode.
