That sounds a bit high, maybe. It depends on what they mean by a "basic" paint job. It makes a difference if they are going to remove any of the body panels and paint in between and replace the welting. It also depends on what kind of paint they use. If they use just an acryllic enamel, I think that's the least expensive, if they use acryllic urethane it's a little more. If they use something like Imron or even clear coat, then it's a lot more.

I had my '49 flatfender Power Wagon painted about 8 years ago. It cost me $3000, but they took off the bed, the front and rear fenders, hood, grill, front bumper running boards and radiator cover. The only thing they didn't remove was the cab. They sandblasted everything on the exterior, and painted the truck inside and out, including any exposed parts of the frame and chassis that were not hidden by the cab. They coated everything with zinc chromate primer, then painted with something that was the equivalent of Imron, but made by a different company (it's really tough stuff). They also straightened a slightly bent part of the frame up near the front bumper, and they straightened a number of good size dents. They also fabricated one of the bed pockets that had been destroyed by a collision with something. They also replaced all the fender welt.

Anyway, I probably got a lot done for the price, but the $2500 they are asking for your job sounds a bit high for just a "basic" job, if you are removing all the trim. I would think it should be somewhere around $1500 - $2000, depending on how much work they do and what kind of paint they use. It also depends on how dented and rusty the body is, but it still sounds a bit high.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, folks!

Hope this helps,

Matt
