I think both are quality transmissions.

My advice is - go with the NP420 if you need to run a PTO winch. NP435's with a drivers side PTO opening are rare, and the PTO itself is even rarer. With the 318 and stock gears and tires, 3rd gear starts are the norm, and even if you had to start in 2nd you do not need to double clutch to go to 3rd (but you do from 3rd to 2nd).

If you are not running a PTO winch, go with the NP435.
