I had a 1950 B2 Pickup that had a seat control valve. I did't know PWs had them as well, and am actually surprised they do. First, the valve only works when all of the components that make up the base of the seat are in excellent condition, including the leather cover. There should be a seal under the seat below the springs as well (either leather or something similar). Imbedded in the lower seal was a circular vent plate about 5 or 6 inches in diameter. It sort of looks like the top of a pepper shaker, with different sized venting holes. Depending on the seat control valve (slide arm) positioning, the different size holes allow the seat to ride hard (minimal amount of escaping air) or soft (maximum amount). If your seat is in poor condition you only get the soft-ride because there is no compression within the seat base. The lever in the front of the seat at the base slides (opens & closes) the control valve to allow variable amounts of air (your butt bouncing up & down on the seat) to escape. I don't know if this is what you are asking about or not? & by the way... isn't everybody a lit'l bit crazy? Personally, I like your PW the color it is also (but I'll bet a box of donuts you can't resist painting her someday)!
