Well...I bought it and drug it home this evening. Next time I buy a 6000ish pound chunk of steel, I'll pay someone to tote it home for me. But alas, I made it without a hitch (well...I hope the hitch is still hooked to the back of the truck). We used a bulldozer to push it onto the trailer. What fun!
Anyhow, all looks good...I looked the truck over again after we had it trailered, and there really is no more than surface rust. And everything underneath appears to be there except for one broken return spring that should cost about a dime. The fellow was mistaken when he said it last ran 8 years ago...it was actually last run 18 years ago. Odometer shows 31+K. May well be accurate since it supposedly works, and its been a farm truck since this fella got it.
The other good thing...the guy went to the courthouse hoping they would have a record of title...lo and behold, they found a copy of the 1962 title when the farm bought the truck, so it comes with a clean title. Also, it is titled as a '51...no a '53 as previously believed. I mis-read the ID plate. It was probably made in late '50, and sold as a '51, which would explain the early guage set.
I'm probably gonna try to get it fired up tomorrow. I'll post an update as to how it goes.
