It works TOO WELL. The capillary action lets it penetrate through the gap of a primer to its cartridge case, and WD-40 simply kills primers.

However, WD-40 has some great automotive uses, because it is misture displacing. Works well to flood parts after they have been washed and as much water as possible soaked up with rags. WD-40 also makes a good cleaner that does not require a lot of effort to neutralize. Many parts cleaned with some cleaning chemicals have to be tanked or washed to remove the cleaner. Not so with WD-40. Just hose it with more WD-40 or engine starting fluid, blow the excess out, and lube as usual.
