I visited a guy today near Allentown PA who saw my woodie PW at the Mccungie show. He talked with me and said he had a similar truck...would I like to see it?
Yes of course!!

It is a 1949 Dodge truck 2WD with Campbell body (#21091, mine is #21421)..nearly identical with mine. I think this is on a 3/4 ton chassis and the model number is B-1-D 126, (same wheelbase as a PW?) serial number 81271750. It has single wheels at the back.

I believe this could be remounted on a PW chassis. The body looks essentially identical to mine...it even has half round rear fenders like a PW although the fenders are not PW ones. The cab is different for 49 2WD trucks however so there must be some differences there.

Now about the condition. It does need plenty of work but it does look to be complete, or nearly so. He said it ran when parked 10 years ago...but I suspect that would be the least of your worries. It has a floor shift trans which is probably a 4 speed. All the wood has suffered from exposure and the only part that looks decent is the interior of the roof. So you would need to disassemble, strip the wood and refinish. I can't tell if all parts are there, but most of it is...probably some small parts would need to be made.

I would have thought all this impossible if I had not seen what wood working guys could do for mine. The bodies are actually very straightforward to disassemble even though they look like a Chinese puzzle. It would take time and effort but I think a person could "create" a woodie PW just like mine by putting this body on a PW chassis.

The guy wants about $3000-4000...but this hardly matters because whoever restores this will certainly spend much more but end up with a very valuable vehicle.

I took some pictures but these are not too revealing because it was at the back of cramped garage. I will try and get these posted later so you can see what it is.

Email me if you might be interested, and I will give you the guy's phone number. He does not want to be bothered however by those who are merely curious.
