How can I determin if the crank is groung for a pilot bearing?

I have two of these Poly engines, both from automatic vehicles. Short of buying a pilot bearing and installing the bell housing and tranny, is there a way of telling?

It looks like there is about a 3/4 or larger cutout in the crank end, but I haven't measured it yet.
