Making the double into two singles, no double no mo, double was 'filed away'. ;^)

Then you can use a sharpy to coat it all with ink, and test fit, looking for ink to transfer to the other part, or try assembling with plasticine clay, looking for good squeeze out/minimal left in the splines.
