Not sure the destroy it part it was falling apart already and many welds were cracking on the old bed and rack. One side of the headache rack was broke thru when I got into it and looked close. All the hydraulics were done wrong and they cut up the front fender to make room for the pump. I had to fix all that which meant a different style pump or leave it sticking out thru the side of the fender and side curtains. Not sure how I could have kept the original look as they used house paint I think to paint it? The sub frame for the dump bed was busted in haft under the bed where they cut part of it out in to fit the cylinders in and needed replacing. So I removed the whole old sub frame and started over. The rear hinge on the flat bed was drilled to big and had a lot of slop. It also started out as a 8 ft bed and they spliced on 2 more feet to the frame and top. Wiring was totally shot and patched up many times. Other than that it looked good from a distance only. Just not sure how I could keep the old look with out a ton of patches and doing it wrong all over again? Now the new look was re/done close to what it did before except I did it right this time and added a few modern things to bring it up to date and make it safe to drive. I did not like the old color that much? I still got the old seat in it which fits great even though it is not original. The gauges work now including the all new brake system. I can't wait to take it for a drive when I get back with the cab on this time. I think to keep the old personality I would have had to left it as yard art and got another one to fix up? Next year I will finish the bed and headache rack plus do the tires and head liner. Pretty much done for the winter except small details, getting to cold out to work on it much with no heat. I can drive it this way around the place and up on the hill till I get my new tires. There pretty shot for any real safe hwy use! This one really needed to be totally re/done to be driven. I think that is why it was parked for so long and only used to push some snow on the ranch.
