1000 years? Most of the GHGs we have added to the atmosphere happened in the last 70 years following WWII. We add about 3 billion tons of CO2 to the atmosphere every year, and that is a net figure after accounting for all the CO2 than can be re absorbed by plants and the ocean. We don't have much control over the volcanoes, but we are unmatched in our ability to extract fossilized carbon and pump it into the atmosphere through our beloved old trucks.

Or maybe that's not the kind of pollution your talking about. I don't know. Do you get a lot of CO2 or methane from volcanic eruptions? Or are we talking mostly about particulate matter?

The NOx pollution that begat DFE is not really bad for the environment. It's only bad for human lungs when mixed with VOC. NOx itself is not harmful, but they regulate it to control ozone formation otherwise known as smog. It is really only harmful in places like LA and Houston where you have a lot of NOx and hydrocarbons concentrated together. All that technology is wasted on those driving around Montana or most of Missouri, for instance.
