If the pan is bent, Pull the pan, see if the knock is a bent pan pushing the pick up into the crank.

That engine has obviously not run in quite some time. I'd run it before testing, get some oil worked through the engine. Loosen up some rusty rings. Reseat rusty valve/seats*. Then the first test would be a "cranking rhythm test". Unhook the coil, and crank it. Listen for a rhythm. No rhythm, engine is good to go. (You can hear 5psi difference.)

I bet you have enough stuff around to rig up a test frame. It's easier than tearing into an engine that may run fine.

*poor valve seating is my bet. The generally useless wet test didn't show any increases. If it's running, you'll hear poor valves.
