A lot of after market conversions used to be done. I know a guy who used to do conversions on Fords in the mid '60s for Northern Lights (local power company). He put Napco drive train under them, to convert them to 1 ton rating. Why the company didn't just buy Dodges, who will ever know? Maybe one of the CEOs was buddies with a Ford exec? I have seen many cases where the Dana 70 front drive axle will hold up under much more work than the Napco 1 ton.
