It wasn't as bad as all that. I bought the first BBD (with automatic choke) cheap from a junk yard, thinking I could find a manual choke kit for it. I rebuilt it and it ran okay (not great), but it had a leak in one of the galley plugs that I couldn't get to stop. It was going to cost me to get the leak fixed and the carb adjusted, plus it still didn't have a manual choke, so I bought this rebuilt one from Rock Auto with a manual choke. After a year of looking for the right one I was happy to pay the money. I still have the first BBD which I'll probably sell on craigslist for more than the core credit. Or I can keep it for another project.

I've never had good luck rebuilding carburetors. I can do them on small engines, but automotive carbs always vex me. So I'm going to pay the money to have a pro do this one and save myself the headache. I rebuild just about anything I can, rather than buy another. If I can't do it myself I have a local guy do it, like for starters and alternators. There's a guy in town who's good, fast, and honest, and I want him to stay in business so I can use him again. This last starter for the M37 was a stinker because it was so busted up inside, but I ended up fixing the broken shaft myself, and he did the rest for $106.00. I get to fix something, and he gets some business. Works for me.
