it s taller and the support frame is taller and sits on top of a c channel bracket that bolts under the crossmember and extends past it and the tank and core are diff so the spout hits the hole--whole nuther animal

the late models have a water pump that is lower and further forward than the early model long blks which use the same pump as the 230

so they had to move the rad further forward to clear the fan--hence the grill ext.

i have a long block with the early pump so my 230 rad needs to go 2 in. forward and can do so and still clear the stock 230 grill

after looking at the rad and strap i confuse myself on how that would all work out--may work may not

if you only need to go an inch or so you may be able to just move the straps that much and be good to go--and redo the spout to the shell hole

your other option is to cut the flange off(butcher like they did on mine with a torch but one could do i nice job--i doubt it weakens the frame support nuff to matter) of the back of the support frame and bolt the rad. and shroud to the front flange or as i said grind the tabs on the rad straps so it fits inside the frame and move it forward and somehow bolt the shell back on--this also requirs a custom spout

my latest plan is to use a bracket like the 251 drilled for moving the support frame 2 in. forward and then move the support frame the 2 in forward in the sheet metal and use some isolated rubber body mounts between the bracket and support frame to bring it to stock height

and then i am going to make a new hole in the shell for the spout and close the old one

i could redo the tank and put a new spout to the hole but i don t want to butcher my beautiful vintage rad. and i got some xtra shells

or you could have a rad made with a custom spout to the shell hole

as said above moving the straps etc may work
