This won't solve your problem, but it may make you feel better:
When I restored my WC-51 about 12 years ago, I backed it into the garage. I removed the distributor, placed it on the shelf 3 feet away from the truck and it didn't move for a year while I did the entire truck. Finally came time to start it up, no go. Double check for dist. being 180 out, troubleshoot the wiring( I had installed all new wires during the process).
Long story short, the condenser had died while it sat idly on the shelf minding it's own business.

PS, I also lost my headgasket, the day after my ASC mechanic friend rode in the truck and commented on how well it was running....
