I went with more capacity then I needed that way no way will I over load it later. They make smaller ones that can run a small drill, electric impact driver etc. Just look at the load rating of the tools you may use and go a little higher. I want to be able to use my Milwaukee Impact Driver on lug nuts to pull the tires off with. Run a saw short time or drill a hole or two. Plus out door lights if needed to fix something away from the house. Mine can put out 3500 watts full time and 7,000 watts short time but that is one heck of a load on the battery!! Figure what you use at 120 VAC is 10 times the load at 12 VDC. My cables that feed the unit are 4/0 copper but the inverter can draw up to 70,000 watts at 12 volts max short time. Most head lights are around 50-75 watts each.
