That is the comparison, 1bbl to 2bbl.

Back in about 1980 I also did before/after with the stock breathing, stock B&B vs a Holley off of a /6. The Holley alone made 5hp improvement. That was in the days before computerized print outs, all I can say is 5hp of max hp, not the shape of the curve. Up from 45 hp to the ground to 50, a 10% improvement!

The Rochester Monojet is a good choice too.

I really think a cam and springs with more than 35# will make a HUGE improvement. Modern engines use 70-100#, and rockers with ratios, 1.3 to 1.5, so over 100# on the lobes. The old metal ought to handle say, 60# springs,60# on lobes?

I've never degreed a flat head cam. But last time I had a head off I watched the valves while I cranked it over by hand. Exhaust closed, then several degrees later the intake started to move. I suspect something like 170 duration each I&E. Yu have to remember this engine goes back to when intakes had no cam, they were sucked open by the piston moving. Negative overlap was a HUGE improvement. I don't know who first invented overlap, but they must have been hailed as a creative hero.
