The stock rim clears everything perfectly. So, no problem using a stock rim on the inside regarding clearance. The problem with using the stock rim on the inside is tire spacing (offset), it leaves the tires almost touching. So, whatever overall width is left up to the 96" width, is the max size spacer that can be used and equally, the max space between the tires.

So, in this application on my truck, the total width of the stock/dually rim combo (without spacer) is 95". If the legal limit is 96", that leaves a 1/2" on either side. That is where I am coming up with the 1/2" spacer. Consequently, it also means that will be the space between the tires since the spacer gets inserted between the rims.

The dually/dually rim combo shifted the inside tire closer to the frame of the truck providing the best tire clearance but that is where the valve stem issue arose. It would be the best fit all around if it would clear the valve stem. There is the problem.

In the pic the left is the dual/dual combo and the right is stock/dual combo...

Hope all this makes sense???
