lets say you have a 4 inch elbow, what you want is the part that is shaped like an egg. The first cut should be over size. Then put that bowl shape part on a flat surface and scribe around the edge, this will be dead flat. I usually mark this edge with a strip of tape and zip cut it, or if the tin is thin enough mark it with blueing die or felt pen, scribe the line and trim with aviation snips. The tabs would be pretty simple. I have seen steel bowls and even a ladle used - a kids plastic bowl might even work.
