The Mega is great. I have an 06 with an Auto.

Yes MPG sucks, but mine being a 4WD, Dually and running All Terrain tires doesn't help that. the last years of the 5.9 were chocked by the EPA with a scavenging cam rather than adding an EGR and that seems to be part of the issue.

My Auto did go out at 105K miles, but the one I had built is strong and I should not have any issues unless I go crazy with major power adds. Don't waste your time on a simple rebuild of the trans (no dealer builds), get a high end build one.

My steering box is good, just a little fluid leak. the fix for that is said to be a Borgeson box.

As for the AC, well rather than upgrading the fan, Dodge Engineers (likely at the do it cheap demand) added a screen to help direct air to the rear and away from the front vents. If you ever have to pull the dash or just desire to fix the AC, there is a write-up on where the screen is and to remove it. In the summer I also close off the heater core hot engine water (you can't do this on the 6.7's) to take some heat load out of the cab/AC.

My truck (I bought it used at ~49K miles)) had an injector failure at ~29K miles and melted a piston, but Dodge installed a new short block and one injector. I've had all the injectors replaced when a 2nd and 3rd started to show signs as well as a pressure regulator and lift pump at ~51K miles. Since then I've had no other issues with the engine.

The 6.7's in 2012 get better millage but I don't want all the new crap that comes with anything newer than my 06 so I'm keeping and maintaining it.

Hope this helps,
Will
