14" electric fan sounds way undersized. The original fan was a 4 or 6 blade 18" fan. Also check the thermostat to be sure that it opens at the right temp. I may be opening late.
The other question is what is telling you that it's overheating? Gauges can be way off. Unless you see it actually boiling over, it may not be overheating.
