From the last forum I was asking for ideas on what would cause a no start on a 318 poly. After trying everything we could think of I decided to swap out a new coil for one that I knew worked. This truck has an original Sun tach with the converter box mounted on the inner fender. We wired the coil with a jumper wire and did NOT connect the tach drive wire. With the first hit of the key the poly roared to life! I touched the tach wire to the coil and it remained running. We shut it off and with the tach wire connected the engine would not start. I had a conversation with Auto Instruments in Virgina, I was told these old sender units have mercury batteries that are no longer made. BUT they do convert the old tachs with new circuit boards so guess where this tach is off to tomorrow morning? Just thought some of you might be interested in what we found.
