Dodge changed naming conventions many times and they weren't even consistent within eras. Like W should have been 1941 and based on the previous years 1942 should have been a new letter, X or Y maybe. Instead 1941-47 are all W. Frequently the models stay the same because the trucks stayed the same. Yet the 1937 and 1938 trucks are very similar, but they're M 1937 and R 1938. It's hard to know why sometimes. There were good reasons I'm sure, but they aren't always obvious unless you can find the internal factory paperwork that explains the thinking.

All I can do is look at how Dodge did things and extrapolate from the information available.
