In the 1941 model year a 1/2 ton 2wd truck was a WC.

The 1940 model year 1/2 ton 2wd truck was a VC.

The 1940 military 4wd 1/2 ton trucks were designated VC-1 through VC-6.

The late 1940 calendar year through early 1942 1/2 ton military 4wd trucks were designated WC-1 through WC-43.

The 3/4 ton and 1 1/4 ton military trucks ended up using the same designation of WC as the 1/2 tons. I'm not sure why? Most likely just to be consistent. That's where the WC-51 to WC-64 and WC-62 to WC-63 come from.

It is basically a carryover naming convention that has been given different reasons over the years without any proof to back up the idea. Like WC = Weapons Carrier.

If anyone has proof of any other explanation for the WC designation and proof to back it up I'd be interested to hear it.

Eric
