Glen said he was using laundry detergent, which I don't think has any caustic soda in it, so I would think the castings will be okay. Dishwasher detergent, on the other hand, does have caustic soda in it, and will eat aluminum pretty quickly.

I use CRC Clean-R-Carb in a spray can to clean out carburetor passages. I wonder if it comes in gallon jugs? I've used it for many years and it has always done a great job for me. It also kills yellow jackets faster than any wasp killer on the market.
