Do it the right way, not the way I usually end up doing it! But it's worth considering that there's nothing magic about the designated distributor position. So long as the plug wires are in the right sequence relative to each other, the oil pump and distributor can be in any old which way and the engine will run equally well. It just makes it a PITA to troubleshoot in the future.
