As some have said repair the 420. one easy to fix trouble can be repaired with out transmission removal. the shift forks have plastic guides that wear out. you can access them by removing the shift top while the transmission is installed. you can inspect the gears while the top is off as well. Dave Cirillo will have the parts. The shift tops have been known to be faulty too. At one time A B Linn had them on E bay regularly.
