Another Grand Cherokee adventure involved this 07 model. This was a rental. It didn't even have a low range option in the transfercase. It still did fine going over Black Bear Pass.
I'd summarize by saying that even wimpy 4x4 systems are adequate for getting you where you need to go, and the advantage of full time 4WD is a nice feature for highway driving in snow or slippery roads.
