Ok i have learned some things while dealing with an 08 ford explorer with drive by wire throttle

the first thing i learned is that the dealerships are full of twits who don't know how to trouble shoot.

second i learned that i now know the mechanic i will continue to take my stuff from now on.
(Well the stuff that i don't do myself anyway)

So this ford was having issues where it would idle way high or would try to drive off when you were standing on the Brake!
also the trans was dancing all over, it could not decide what gear it wanted and every time you took off from a light it would act different. some times felt good other times totally high rpm and no torque..

so after the dealer took my money and did nothing to help. i got it into a real mechanic and told him what it was doing.
I already had a scanner on it myself and found nothing....
He stops me while explaining to ask
"has the battery been disconnected recently?"
now i am thinking he has my house bugged or something... i say yes and he explains why.
so over time the drive by wire throttle adapts to the dirt and grime that builds in the throttle body and then after disconnecting the batt. it resets the computer and it tries to go back to the factory starting place which it cant cuz the grime that is there and every thing gets screwed up.
he fixed the car by checking the electrical system to make sure every thing was good (so it won't happen again) and then cleaned the throttle body and throttle plates with 6$ of cleaner and then reset the fuel map.
now it runs like a champ and i understand how the damn thing works and he only charged 100$ to do the troubleshooting and work.
love it when people know what they are doing.
