engine to firewall clearance

I just changed the cab mounts on my 67 WM300 and getting ready to change the front motor mount. I noticed that the rear of the head is only about 1/4" from the firewall. Is this sufficient or normal? I adjusted the cab as far to the rear as the adjustments allowed so I don't think that is a problem. I admit I didn't check the engine clearance before starting but I think it was even less than now. My 62 has a good bit more clearance in the same area.
