Do they still have the drawings?
You should go over with a decent tape recorder and buy this fellow lunch. Let him talk about the truck, conversion or whatever.
It might be good to either have the truck there to look at or better yet some good pictures from varios angles to get his memories and stories going. You then could transcribe the tape. These type of guys are not going to be around too much longer.
