About 10 years ago I bought an M37 in Virginia with no title. I could get nowhere with my state, Maryland, due to this situation, it is a "catch 22".
At that time Broadway Title operated out of Alabama, taking advantage of the Alabama law as you state. I had them do some sort of registration as an antique vehicle in Alabama, and then presented this paper to the Maryland DMV. I was told that each state has to honor other states title/registration rules, so MD issued me a MD title on the spot.
I don't know if this is still the case. But it would be worth a try for you. But, I don't know if the plate would work. Can't you get a copy of the original registration in Alabama by supplying the Bill of Sale from when you bought it?
