yep the WC53 has been growing in popularity over the past decade. When I did mine 15 years ago, I found no others that had been resto/modified. I took several years before I saw people starting to redo them. There has always been some restored to original.
I believe that the body design is what makes them desirable. There is nothing else out there like them. They look a lot better than the 1/2 ton carryalls. They also seem to have a better ride. The original drive train does just fine with a V8. Mine has 200+ HP at the rear wheels. Front disk brakea are a must.
