Hi guys, is anybody here an ex Cummins mechanic or have friends working at Cummins?
I have a strange problem....I bought a 51 Autocar with a Cummins in it. I assumed it was a Cummins NH220 or the like but every 220 I've seen, the intake is on the drivers side. Both intake & exhaust are on the RH side of this engine.
I'm trying to decide whether to rebuild this engine or transplant a newer 350 or 400 in there but a major factor will be parts availability for what I have.
So after not being able to identify it myself, I took the engine tag number down to Cummins & asked them what it is? I told them the block is dated 1948 & the Engine tag number is NH-10442-1
The guys answer..."no idea"??
Huh? You built it! Nope...if the computer doesn't accept the VIN number then we can't tell you???
Doesn't anyone have old books anymore??
I expect this at the Dodge dealership but not at Cummins.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
