I only used hard spiral sewn cotton buffs. The bigger the better. On a buffer, I started out with a used motor that I made a spindle for. decided to move up to a Baldor dedicated buffer that ran 3800 rpm. Didn't like it and don't even use it now. The rpms on my old motor I think was 1800rpm. After I wore it out I found another one with the same rpm and still use it to this day. Don't waste you money on a buffer is what I'm saying.
