IMO Echo is the most under-recognized chain saw brand out there. I'll admit I've never worn out a stihl, but my stihls are old and maybe the quality has gone down. But after being totally frustrated with McCulloch and Homelite, I've been really pleased with the Echos I've had. Around here, they small sizes (14") are popular with the tree service guys -- light and reliable, but from what I've read, in Asia the loggers use full-size models. My biggest echo was a 20", which is a great size for average firewood cutting. I'd still be using it if I hadn't run it half way over with my truck and destroyed the magnesium housing.

I imagine Echo probably makes weed eaters too, and I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try. It's a silly name and they don't advertise much, but good products.
