Mounting a MU-2 on a 1/2 ton will require fab work, which you already know/accept. You will need a 'COMPLETE' MU-2 winch. You dont need or want a PTO or winch drive shaft. Choosing the hydraulic motor vs the hydraulic pump for the proper operation is critical. I love my converted Hydraulic Drive MU-2's.
Electric winches just cant compare to hydraulic drive. For good examples go to the Milemarker website and look at or request a dvd of their testing of electric vs hydraulic. I have a copy I can loan you if that DVD is no longer available on Milemarker web site. Its real eye opener.
