It says on the John Deer website that it's only for low speed gearboxes. A winch or a steering box is presumably okay. A transmission, transfer case, or differential clearly is not. But I don't know where a steering knuckle falls in that range. Obviously the shaft is spinning fast, but the bearings in the joint aren't moving very much. It seems like you'd need to leave enough room that the grease can get thrown off to the sides rather than have the joint trying to stir one solid mass of grease. My understanding of grease is that the soap part is just there as a carrier for the oil and that in operation it's just the oil that makes the film that protects things, while the main part of the grease serves to hold a reserve of oil. This makes sense because really old grease that's dried out does tend to resemble soap.
