I use 20/30 Silica Sand it works the best but any sand that does not have rocks in it will go thru the tip. Any finer and it just does not do the job very fast. 2800 psi is not going to get the job done. You need at least 3200 PSI mine is a 6 HP Honda. Bigger the better. I use a plastic trash can and cut a small hole in the top for the hose. A big can will hold 300 lbs of sand. Works good for me and keeps the water mist out when working. No dust but you need a mask that sand goes every where. A paint hood for your hair is nice to keep the sand out. If I can stand the heat I wear rain gear but it has been in the 90s+ a lot. Only thing left is sand dust and I wash that off with the roto-tip on the wand. Sand will get in every part of the cab so you need to blow or wash it out good with plain water. Flash rust happens fast but you can remove it easy later when dry then treat it. A fine wire cup brush will shine the cab up good then regular sanding or acid treat it? Dry sand goes thru the hose good, wet/damp will get stuck and clog the intake. The siphon hose tip has to stay in the sand to work. A bottom feed may work but the hose uses lot of sand any more and you may waste it. Grease is hard to get off blasting best to scrap or scrub it off first. Anything soft and the sand won't cut it. Duck Tape on glass works good to protect it.
