Marty covered the topic very well. The only thing I would add, which is what the local PPG store told me many years ago is;
Stick with one brand paint and stick within that brand to one family of paint. Never play Junior Paint Chemist and mix brand and family's within that brand until you really know what your doing. This way you wont have any paint inter reactions that would destroy the finish.
